50s Party Dress Vintage Prom Brocade Bombshell L
This is such a beautiful vintage party dress, probably dating to the 1950s. The bodice has spaghetti straps and a camisole neckline, with a bandeau-style bust that is softly gathered down the center. There is boning in the bodice sideseams. The set-in front waist section is diamond shaped in the center, curving up below the bust and down into the skirt. The long skirt has four swingy gores.

The fabric is glorious - a rayon brocade depicting an Asian garden scene - maybe Japan, maybe China. There are bamboo leaves, flowering trees and bushes, little pagodas and temples and tiny people on kimonos standing on curved bridges. The scene is woven in soft pastel shades of pink, blue, gold, green and silver. The satin background is vibrant turquoise.
No tags at all. I think this was most likely custom sewn.
A long metal zipper down the back
The bust section of the bodice was enlarged at some point by adding a pair of vee's under each arm within the sideseam - see closeup. It was well done. No other issues noted - no stains, holes, or tears.
